The NYC-HHI Hat Choices

Here are the designs I’ve come up with to represent the NYC-HHI Hat.

I wanted a design that would look good worked with one colour, two colours, or in variegated yarn.  I also wanted some texture in the design, which would come out well when worked in one colour.  I also wanted designs that would be similar in crochet or knit versions.

These are all crocheted hats.  I crochet faster than I knit, and I wanted to get something up fast.  These designs will convert well into knit versions.  I’ll work on the knit version of the chosen hat (for the pattern) and post that later.

For colours, I’m thinking to make teal (or the teal family) the official NYC-HHI hat colour.  I can’t think of any other colours that would be suitable for men, women and children.  I would have chosen purple or amethyst, but that colour is taken up already.

The top are all basic single crochet or double crochet rounds, with regular increases on each round until you get to the size that you want to make (for children, women, men).

The body of the hat is where the different designs come in, for your choices.

If you haven’t already, please comment below which hat design you think should represent the group.  I’ll tally the total likes from the posts here and from Facebook on which hat design most people like.  So far, the most ‘likes’ is Hat No. 3 – the Moss/Seed Stitch design.

Voting/Likes will finish on Monday, 6 May.

  1. I have to go with 1 or 2. The variable yarns just don’t show the real look of the hat. And what I see of 1, would look great in any yarn plain, varigated or mixed. Though 2 might appeal to more recipients than one…. simpler and warmer around the ears.
If you had put up thepatternss, we could have made a sample of each in different yarns and made a better call. As it stands, 3 and 4 just don’t show enough to make an informed choice on them.

    • Thanks for the feedback. I thought I had included a pattern, but it only shows for hats 3 and 4. Guess one of the edits/saves took out the others.
